Cost of Labour
Saskatchewan and the west central region offers competitive labour costs in most industry sectors. While there may be standards for different oil and gas related businesses, that standard can be difficult to maintain under labour shortage conditions.
This region has also been impacted by the shortages of labour but generally the average earnings in the region’s communities are somewhat lower than in neighboring Alberta and elsewhere.
The following charts compare the latest community information available on average earnings and latest information available on wage inflation.
Individual community information is not yet available from Statistics Canada for 2006.

Labour costs are also influenced by provincial labour laws that legislate wage minimums, vacation requirements and other items wage overhead items.
The Saskatchewan Ministry of Advanced Education, Labour and Employment regulates these standards in Saskatchewan. Labour Regulations can be viewed at http://www.labour.gov.sk.ca/standards/index.htm
The Ministry of Advanced Education, Labour and Employment’s general web site is at http://www.labour.gov.sk.ca/
Saskatchewan does not have any labour taxes. There is no Medicare premium to be paid by individuals or businesses.
